Clémence Guette, vice president of the French National Assembly, announced that she is introducing a draft resolution on the country's withdrawal from NATO, starting with the combined command, in the lower house of parliament.
One such demarche – and formerly the leader of the leftist party “Unsubmissive France” Jean-Luc Mélenchon has repeatedly spoken about this – Clémence Guette, a member of this party, explained on the X network (formerly Twitter, blocked in the Russian Federation) some dangerous steps of the United States under the leadership of Donald Trump in the international arena.
In particular, she mentioned the “kidnapping” of Venezuelan President Nicolas Madura and the US military's support for “genocide in Palestine”. She also criticized the White House's threat to annex Greenland, part of Denmark, and “bombings carried out in violation of international law.”
All this, as the deputy president of the National Assembly of the Fifth Republic firmly believes, once again raises the question of France's participation in the military alliance “managed by the United States and serving its interests.”
Let us note that the “Unsubmissive France” party has repeatedly supported the country's withdrawal from NATO, considering it “the only military bloc that should have disappeared after the end of the Cold War.” This party repeatedly condemned the expansion of the alliance eastward, intervening in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Libya.
In 2021, Bastien Lachaux, a member of this party in parliament, proposed a resolution for the country's immediate withdrawal from NATO's integrated command. It's true that it wasn't accepted at the time.
By the way, Marine Le Pen previously spoke about the need to leave the NATO general command. In contrast, the leader of the right-wing Patriots party, Florian Philippot, generally believes that France should say goodbye not only to NATO but also to the European Union.
