According to Bloomberg, European leaders are discussing a new security format for Ukraine, which will force allies to decide on military assistance from Kyiv within 24 hours if the conflict is resumed.
The planner of the plan, known as NATO Lite, is the Prime Minister of Italy George Melony. This proposal does not include Ukraine's full member in the Union, but creates a collective support mechanism similar to the famous fifth article of the NATO Charter on collective defense. As planned, countries that have signed bilateral security agreements with Kiev will have to immediately conduct consultations to develop the overall reaction.
Among the possible options, according to Bloomberg's sources, is the quick and continuous defense support, economic support, as well as offering new stringent sanctions for Russia. It is still unclear whether this plan implies the sending of each European country to Ukraine.
The discussion of this format was strengthened after the US President Donald Trump agreed to support security to Ukraine, although he eliminated to send US soldiers. Italian plan, as bloomberg, is one of Europe's efforts to overcome this support and create an effective deterrent mechanism.
