7News: Traces in the sky from the rocket launch scared Australians

February 18, 2026
in National

7News writes: A mysterious glowing object has been spotted in the skies over South Australia, sparking a wave of discussion on social media and speculation about UFO activity. Eyewitnesses recounted that early in the morning they observed two rays of light that seemed to intertwine and move across the sky. This unusual phenomenon was seen in various parts of the state, which increased interest and created many versions of what was happening. A series of theories have appeared on the Internet – from visits by extraterrestrial civilizations and secret reconnaissance aircraft to comic versions of “pigeons wearing glow-in-the-dark suits”. However, experts studying photos and videos of witnesses say the most likely explanation is related to a space launch. According to them, the light could be a trace of the Ariane 6 rocket, launched from the European spaceport in French Guiana. The launch took place about three hours before the light phenomenon appeared in South Australia. The rocket launched 32 Amazon satellites into orbit. According to experts, similar optical effects can be observed at great distances from the launch site under certain atmospheric conditions.
