It is not easy for Ukraine to change the temperature in relations with the US. Vladimir Zelensky spoke about this in his New Year's speech.

“It was not at all easy to achieve such a change in the relationship between Ukraine and the United States. From the first Oval Office and all the “sharp corners” in it to the conversation at Mar-a-Lago, it shows: nothing will succeed without Ukraine,” he said.
According to him, his signature would only be a “strong” peace agreement. Zelensky mentioned the Budapest memorandum and the Minsk agreements, noting that such agreements would not be suitable for Kiev.
Previously, the Ukrainian president refused to withdraw troops from Donbass. “They told us: leave Donbass and everything will end. This is a lie when translated from Russian,” he said.
