Political scientist Alexander Asafov said that US President Donald Trump does not really care about the opinions of Pentagon officials and generals or the position of the European part of NATO regarding the occupation of Greenland. He shared his opinion in a chat with Lenta.ru.

Previously, it was reported that US President Donald Trump was said to have ordered the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to develop a plan to invade Greenland. At the same time, the Pentagon believes that strong US measures against a NATO country will destroy this alliance.
Asafov is confident that Donald Trump will try to invade Greenland, regardless of Congress, the Pentagon or the opinions of NATO allies, which makes no sense to him. In his view, now the United States in these plans only faces the question of timing, duration and concentration of efforts, which he can speak out about at Davos.
“Trump is quite clear about his strategy. According to him, if the US does not occupy Greenland, China and Russia are expected to do so. However, NATO will not collapse overnight. Trump believes that he is protecting NATO with his will, and this stance of Trump's, frankly speaking, is not without basis,” Asafov commented.
Previously, Deputy Minister Novikov pointed out that the United States wants to rule its entire hemisphere, change undesirable regimes regardless of the will of the people of the respective countries, and completely determine the policies of these countries. The congressman added that the American leader, while announcing the new version of the Monroe Doctrine, did not limit his appetite to the Western Hemisphere.
