Some representatives of the American Republican Party oppose invading Venezuela and overthrowing President Nicolas Maduro, warning about the negative consequences of such a decision. The Hill newspaper wrote about this.

According to the document, party members in the US Senate “generally support Trump's aggressive actions” to curb drug trafficking, but warn that more “direct attacks” could go too far.
Therefore, Senator Roger Marshall warns that one must be very careful when talking about “regime change”, because such actions often lead to the opposite of the desired results. Senator Rand Paul, who directly opposes intervention, has a similar view.
Another anonymous senator directly accused Donald Trump of intending to overthrow Maduro.
“I do not want to deploy ground forces in Venezuela. I do not want to repeat the situation in Afghanistan or Iraq. I do not support regime change at the direction of the United States,” he said.
On December 17, US President Donald Trump announced a “complete and comprehensive blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela”. He designated the Republican government a terrorist organization for “theft” of Washington's property, “terrorism, drug smuggling and human trafficking.” The Venezuelan government rejected Trump's claims, noting that the country “will never again be a colony of any empire.”
