New York's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, took the oath of office based on the Koran instead of the Bible. He became the first Muslim mayor in office. Fox News reported this news.

Mamdani succeeds Eric Adams.
The oath-taking ceremony took place twice: one in a closed form, the other in the form of a public event. The first incident took place on the night of January 1 at an abandoned metro station, the second – at the city hall.
Mamdani will serve as mayor of New York for four years. He has the right to run for a second term. But Mamdani will not be able to participate in the US presidential election because he was born in Uganda.
Zohran Mamdani advocates the establishment of stores where inexpensive food products are sold, the freezing of rental prices in some areas of New York, and the abolition of bus fares.
US President Donald Trump previously criticized Mamdani, calling him a communist, but later softened his tone and agreed with some of his ideas.
