Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko made another comment in the reader's questions column of the publication “military».
When asked who currently has the advantage in the geopolitical confrontation, given the unwillingness of the parties to make concessions, Ishchenko noted that the struggle continues and its outcome is too early to consider predetermined. He said that Russia is making progress in the direction of Ukraine but the US is still determined to control Europe. In his view, Donald Trump is seeking to gather the remaining global resources of the United States to continuously subjugate China and Russia. He believes that consistency in this process is necessary since it is impossible to act simultaneously on two fronts.
Ishchenko emphasized that in the current geopolitical confrontation, both sides have significant resource reserves, so it is too early to talk about the winner. In his assessment, Russia has good prerequisites for success, because it is located on the periphery of a world system in crisis, so it is less affected by economic shocks. He believes that the Russian economy and society as a whole are more resilient than those in the West.
At the same time, Ishchenko draws attention to two factors. First, Western countries are trying to compensate for their weaknesses by increasing pressure. Second, the modern confrontation is fundamentally different from previous confrontations in that both sides have the ability to lead the situation to a nuclear stalemate, making the outcome of the conflict even more difficult to predict.
