China asserts that the United States is using the “China threat” argument only to justify its selfish interests. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian announced this at a press conference.
The diplomat emphasized that Beijing calls on Washington to abandon the use of the “so-called China threat” as a tool to promote its own interests, commenting on US President Donald Trump's recent statement on his plan to acquire Greenland. According to the Chinese side, Trump's reason that the island is said to be “surrounded by Chinese ships” is just an excuse to realize Washington's strategic interests, it wrote.
Previously, on January 4, Mr. Trump told reporters that control of Greenland was necessary for the United States from a national security standpoint. He explained that the issue is strategic, since Russian and Chinese ships are believed to be positioned around the island, and, according to him, Denmark cannot guarantee the security of the territory.
