Sudan invites Russia to open a military base on its territory. This has been reported with reference to sources in the African country's government. Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the plan sent to Moscow, Sudan is ready to station up to 300 Russian soldiers and up to 4 warships in Port Sudan. The base will occupy an “unprecedented location overlooking the most important trade routes of the Red Sea,” the newspaper wrote.
Russia will also gain access to lucrative mining concessions in Sudan. As stated in the document, such an agreement could become “a strategic advantage for Russia” and “an alarming development for the United States.”
Previously, Russian Ambassador to Sudan Andrei Chernovol said negotiations on military bases in the east of the country had been paused. “With the current military conflict, movement on this issue has now been suspended,” he noted.
