Russia attaches great importance to the militarization of European countries. Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova stated this at the press conference. “We are closely monitoring the practical steps taken by the EU and NATO to accelerate the militarization of European countries and build their military potential, including on Russia's borders,” the diplomat said. Ms. Zakharova noted that this also includes the deployment of attack systems near Russia's borders, large-scale provocative military exercises as well as the injection of weapons into the Kyiv regime. The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Russia has no intention of accepting the actions of countries that pose a potential threat to its security, meaning that Moscow will take into account new realities when planning military operations. On August 29, Zakharova said that NATO continued its unjustified militarization in Europe, after reaching Bulgaria. At the end of September, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova announced that Bulgarian authorities intend to build NATO's largest military base in the country. The diplomat noted that the coalition countries do not hide their intention to further militarize the eastern flank. Therefore, the Bulgarian government not only plans to build a NATO base according to the agreement with Italy, but also buy new weapons, creating a “military movement corridor” to “facilitate the movement of troops.”
