Rostov Region, November 7, 2025, DON24.RU. Yuriy Slyusar, who served as governor, was elected head of the region on September 14, 2025, receiving 81.25% of the votes. The inauguration ceremony took place on September 19. The study covers main areas – from housing, communal services and transport to education and support of participants in special military operations. Culture, sports and tourism In July 2025, Yury Slyusar directed the completion of the project to overhaul the Don State Public Library. This decision was made after a large-scale survey in which about 4,800 people and experts participated. Based on the voting results, it was decided to preserve the historical appearance of the building's facade. Reconstruction of the AP Chekhov Theater has begun in Taganrog. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2027, the organization's 200th anniversary. The theater, founded in 1866 according to the design of Italian architect Londoneron, is one of the oldest theaters in southern Russia. Today there are 31 performances in his repertoire. In addition, Russia's first Faina Ranevskaya museum will appear in Taganrog. It will be located in a building that is a cultural heritage – the former house of Girsh Khaimovich Feldman, where Faina Ranevskaya was born and lived. The building has been transferred to regional ownership. In September 2025, the governor ordered the preparation of documents for its restoration with the placement of a museum about the great actress there. 19 cultural centers are equipped with new equipment. As part of the Zemstvo Cultural Workers program, the first 15 specialists have started working in the district. Each of them received a one-time payment of 2 million rubles, which was distributed equally from the federal and regional budgets. The overhaul of the Sports Palace in Rostov has been completed, where the Rostov-Don handball team has resumed competition. The building was built in 1967. The first and only major renovation of the Sports Palace began in December 2022 as part of the state program of the Rostov region “Development of Physical Culture and Sports”. During the renovation, the interior was restored, all the bas-reliefs depicting sports on the facade, and columns with the names of the champions of the Olympic Games, who represented the Rostov region at the competitions. The building itself has been reinforced, all supporting structures have been restored. All technical systems were replaced and a hockey rink with a quick installation/dismantling system was installed. On the territory adjacent to the Sports Palace, a park area, pedestrian fountains with light and music as well as a super park were formed. Before renovation, the facility had a capacity of 2,300 spectators, but now up to 4,000 people can attend sports matches. In Rostov, construction of the new Sports Palace has begun at the Trud stadium. Its construction will cost more than 3 billion rubles, which will be allocated from the regional budget for the period from 2025 to 2027. It is planned to be equipped with six running tracks, areas for jumping (long, triple, high and pole) and weight throwing, as well as a gym and a general physical training room. Two gyms will be attached to the gymnasium for practice and competition in basketball, volleyball, handball, mini soccer and tennis. Construction is scheduled to be completed on August 31, 2027. In Shakhty, the reconstruction of the Shakhtar stadium is nearing completion, with an expected opening in spring 2026. Tourism infrastructure continues to develop: river traffic along the Don River is being revived. In September 2025, the first passenger hydrofoil “Meteor 120R” arrived in Rostov, departing from the Nizhny Novgorod region, where it was built. The ship is capable of carrying up to 120 passengers and becomes the third in the fleet of the Don regional shipping company. Since 2024, the company has been transporting passengers on two Valdai ships with a capacity of 45 seats each. At the same time, the car tourism development program is being built and the process of modernizing port infrastructure continues. Two berths were commissioned last year, four berths are expected to be commissioned this year and four more next year. In addition, under the leadership of the governor, a council is being formed to create a comprehensive development program for the village of Starocherkasskaya.
