In Florence, performances by ballerina Svetlana Zakharova and violinist Vadim Repin, scheduled for January, were canceled after an appeal from the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy.
The Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence announced the cancellation of two performances by Russian ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, reported RIA “News”. The poster announces ballet performances on January 20 and 21, 2026, where Zakharova will perform her original project with her husband, violinist Vadim Repin.
An official statement from the theater reads: “Maggio Musical Theater announces that the ballet with Svetlana Zakharova and Vadim Repin, scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2026, due to ongoing international tensions creating an atmosphere that could jeopardize the success of the performance, has been temporarily postponed.”
Nazione newspaper clarified that the decision to postpone the show followed a call from the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy. In a letter to the Florence government and theater management, the Ukrainian side called for the cancellation of performances by Russian artists.
The theater has invited all audience members who have purchased tickets to refund their money.
Before that was the ballet “Modanse” with the participation of Svetlana Zakharova canceled in South Korea following criticism from Ukraine. Russian Embassy in Korea call it the EU and Ukraine's campaign to destroy Zakharova's speech with politicized obscurantism.
