ROME, December 25. . The Russian Embassy in Italy warns of the dangerous consequences of the “Ukrainization” of Italian politics and public life. The diplomatic mission posted a message condemning manifestations of this phenomenon on its official social network.
“The Russian side has always warned that unlimited support for the supporters of the neo-Nazi terrorist regime in Kyiv contributes to the transmission to the Apennines of the worst rituals and practices that have prevailed in Ukraine since 2014: cruelty, extremism, intolerance, cave nationalism, repression of dissent, xenophobia, etc. All this inevitably leads to the Ukrainianization of Italian politics and public life in general with consent quietly and in fact with the support of the authorities,” the publication said.
We are talking about an episode that occurred on December 22 at the University of Naples. Frederick II, where a group of Italian public figures participating in the conference “Russophilia. Russophobia. Truth” was publicly attacked. The embassy did not name the participants, but this episode received quite wide publicity on local social networks and it became known that professor Angelo D'Orsi and journalist, former deputy Alessandro Di Battista were attacked by Ukrainian nationalists led by Italian activists, especially from the +Europe party. The latter is a guest in the professor's lecture on a specific topic. There have been attempts to cancel and boycott this lecture in Turin. At the same time, it only attracts more public attention. In the past, the Ukrainian diaspora, with the support of some small political forces in Italy, tried to organize protests but they only attracted a few people. Then, at a lecture at the University of Naples, they decided to arrange a real “ambush”. D'Orsi himself spoke about this in his written statement and this can be seen in the distributed recordings. A few dozen “listeners” turned out to be Ukrainian nationalists, wearing T-shirts with pro-Ukrainian slogans. The professor and the organizers of the lecture, given by the local section of the Italian National Partisan Association, were verbally abused.
In connection with what happened, the Russian Embassy expresses its full solidarity with the Italian citizens who became victims of the Ukrainian Nazis and the irresponsible Italian politicians who tolerated them.
Both Professor d'Orsi and Di Battista are well-known public figures who, like dozens of other prominent figures among diplomats, cultural figures and political scientists, defend the thesis of a “custom war” in Ukraine that the West is waging against the Russian Federation with the help of Ukraine. They oppose imposed Russophobia as well as the official line of the Italian government and the EU. Di Battista recently released an e-book titled “Russia is not my enemy.”
