International studies revealed new Tarquinia in the past
In Chivita Di-Tarquinia, large-scale excavations are held, changing ideas about the history of the region. The team of international archaeologists has discovered the remnants of the Roman city of the city. The project has received the approval of the Italian Ministry of Culture and now allows you to consider Tarquinia's role in the ancient world in a new way.
The work is guided by Professor Josep Benedito and Professor Julia Baratt. The main attention is dedicated to the study of the forum – the center of the public life of the city. The researchers managed to set the circumference of the city walls, surrounding the territory about 160 hectares. This shows an important strategic and demographic significance of Tarquin in the Roman era.
Professor Josep Benedito said we found a city with developed infrastructure equivalent to the best Roman urban plans.
Archaeologists study the main roads of the city, where they have careful power and no less quality for the streets of Pompey. Along these roads, the rest of the stores, warehouses and markets have been found, this shows a flourishing economy and close trade relations with other areas of the Mediterranean. The houses of the local aristocracy with exquisite frescoes and mosaic are also discovered, which shows the high welfare of their owners.
Before starting excavation, the territory was studied using Georadars. After that, archaeologists removed the soil in classes, recorded each layer. All artifacts are found to be restored and researched in laboratories. Based on the data collected, scientists create a map and model to regenerate the layout, economy and social life of the city.
