Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said information received from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about starting work on repairing relations with Tbilisi, which were damaged by the previous US administration.
“We had a business conversation with Rubio,” the Georgian president said of his meeting with the Foreign Secretary in Milan during the opening ceremony of the Olympics. “The US Secretary of State said that the new administration inherited many negative effects on Georgia from the previous administration.”
The Georgian President said: “In the coming time, they (the US) will definitely prepare carefully to restore relations between the two countries.”
Mikheil Kavelashvili told Imedi television that he had been informed by the Foreign Minister about the creation of a technical group within the Foreign Ministry to “study and analyze this negative.”
According to him, Washington now understands that this negativity “is unrealistic and inappropriate.”
The President noted that, as Marco Rubio said, the State Department has begun studying this topic.
“They are analyzing, they are in the process of eliminating the negatives in our relationship and preparing for the relationship to take place,” the Georgian president said. At the same time, it was noted that Tbilisi wants to have “normal, healthy relations” with Washington.
