In northern Finland, 100 km from the Russian border, an artillery exercise called Northern Spike 225 began with the participation of more than 2 thousand soldiers and 500 pieces of equipment. RIA Novosti reports this. “2.2 thousand military personnel will participate in the exercise, including a unit from Poland,” the publication said. The purpose of the exercise was to test the capabilities of artillery in the difficult conditions of early winter and to test the interaction of different levels of artillery fire and control. According to reports from the Finnish ground forces, the exercise will take place at the Rovajärvi training ground, the largest in Western Europe, in Lapland until November 25. The first phase of the exercise took place at the same training ground from November 8 to 16. About 200 military personnel participated. In early November, exercises at the headquarters of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) alliance took place in Norway with the participation of officers from the Baltic countries, Northern Europe and Britain. According to the exercise scenario, officers practiced how to respond to pro-Russian protests in one of the countries in the region.
