One of the most outstanding productions of the Mariinsky Theater on the Bolshoi stage. From the Northern capital to Moscow, artists brought Giuseppe Verdi's opera “Simon Boccanegra”. The history of internal political struggles in the Republic of Genoa and the power of human dignity, MIR 24 reports.
The show was transferred to the Mariinsky from theaters in Genoa and Venice and was staged in collaboration with them. The opera combines bold musical language and minimalist scenery. In Boccanegra there are no dizzying cadenzas and arias; There is a black wall in the middle of the stage. The opera is considered one of Verdi's most complex and dark masterpieces, yet continues to achieve success worldwide.
“When there's a video sequence of the sea in the background and it's always limited, the view of the sea with this landscape, you're finally waiting to see all of this sea. And finally, when those windows and shutters open, it's very impressive at the end! Simple and very effective! With such an Italian flavor,” noted Mariinsky Theater concertmaster Grigory Yakerson.
