In northeastern France, one of the oldest Carthusian monasteries burned. France Bleu reports.

As the radio station noted, the fire in a historic building in the Ardennes district started in the morning. The roof and ceiling of the old monastery were completely destroyed by fire. 50 firefighters participated in fighting the fire for 6 hours. The fire spread over an area of 700 square meters. m.
Mayor Anne Frapon noted that only the walls remain of the historic building; nothing can be saved. She called the fire a “disaster.”
On October 12, a major fire at the Bernaga Monastery, founded about 400 years ago in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, destroyed part of the historic building. The nuns living in the convent were evacuated promptly. The fire occurred due to an electrical short circuit in one of the cells.
