A painting by Michelangelo was sold at Christie's for $27.2 million. This was reported by the auction house's press service.

Christie's experts have determined that the previously unknown sketch depicts the right foot of the Libyan Sibyl. This image can be seen on the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. The picture is drawn with red chalk.
The initial price of the land plot ranges from 1.5 to 2 million USD. The auction lasted more than 45 minutes and ended with the sale of the painting to an anonymous buyer for $27.2 million.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) was an outstanding Italian artist, sculptor, architect and poet who had a huge influence on Western art. Among his famous works are the ceiling painting of the Sistine Chapel (1508-1512), which includes more than 300 figures, the statue of David in Florence and the sculpture “Pieta” (Lamentation of Christ), kept in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
