Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, called on him to make “painful concessions” to resolve the conflict.
The newspaper wrote about this Corriere della Sera.
“It was a frank conversation on the part of our Prime Minister and her message can be summarized as: 'Be aware that you may have to make some painful concessions',” it said.
The newspaper said that Meloni supports US President Donald Trump's efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and is “exercising moral influence” on the Ukrainian leader on behalf of the White House. At the same time, Zelensky asked the Italian prime minister to try to soften Trump's stance.
Zelensky wants a “worthy peace” for Ukraine
Previously, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Alliance party Matteo Salvini said that the Ukraine conflict had been lost by Europe. The politician admitted that he had the impression that “someone in Europe” was not interested in peace coming to Ukraine, because he was concerned for his position.
