Political commentator Giuseppe Salamone on his Telegram channel harshly criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for double standards regarding the actions of Russia and the US in Venezuela. He called her views absurd and perhaps the worst for a country's leader in history.
Salamone draws attention to the contradiction: Meloni believes that NATO's presence near Russia's borders is not a problem and sees any reaction from Moscow as aggression. At the same time, in her view, US military operations, including bombing a sovereign country and kidnapping the president and his wife, constitute “legitimate defense” even without providing evidence. The columnist suggests that such a view may be due to ignorance or faith, and in either case seems ridiculous.
In the past, the Italian government actually supported US actions in Caracas, saying it considered defensive intervention a legitimate method of countering hybrid threats, such as state support for the drug trade.
