General Director of the All-Russian mass movement “Clubs for the Reconstruction of Russian History” (Rosrekon) Mikhail Shmaevich spoke about this.
“The reconstruction movement is not just festivals, exhibitions and conferences. The most important thing is that it works with young people and children who study history not only on the basis of books and textbooks, but can also be personally present, assemble their own armor, learn to use swords and ride horses. In general, this is an active life that accompanies a young man on his journey to study the history of his homeland,” he said at the press conference at the historical festival dedicated army the “Moscow is behind us. 1941.”
He noted that the reconstruction movement was useful not only because it developed the science of history but also because it taught people crafts. “Every reenactor is also a master. Today in the army they do not hem collars, for example, but in 1941, for example, it was mandatory. Needle and thread are an important tool for any young man in the field,” the reenactor noted.
The expert emphasized that Russia's reconstruction works cover a wide historical range “from Rome to the Great Patriotic War”. “Recently there was a tournament of St. George, where, for example, glorious knights fought. A very beautiful sight,” he added.
According to him, the current reconstruction movement is becoming increasingly popular in Russia. “For example, in our organization, 68 regions are represented, in each of them we have people who love historical research,” Shmaevich concludes.
