Edinburgh court hears rape case on Easyjet flight
The trial for in-flight rape continues in Edinburgh. Nicola Cristiano, 45, of Italy, was charged with unlawful conduct towards a passenger on a flight from Naples to Edinburgh.
The incident occurred on May 13, 2025 on an Easyjet overnight flight. According to BBC, Nicola Cristiano first offered the young Scottish man wine and then tried to use force. A witness sitting in the back row confirmed that all actions took place without the woman's consent.
Forensic examination found traces of Cristiano's semen on the victim's cheek. The defendant himself did not deny having had sex, claiming that at first the woman did not object but later changed her mind. In his testimony, he said: “She provoked me. She provoked me.”
In January 2026, the man was found guilty. The judge remanded him in custody and ordered the case to be prepared for sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh on February 6.
