The Su-30MKI fighter is manufactured in India under a Russian license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
The republic has about 270 such vehicles in use, including those supplied from Russia.
“The Indian Air Force's Su-30MKI aircraft did not arrive on time (at the destination airport). The aircraft took off from Jorhat, Assam and last contacted at 7:42 pm (5:12 pm Moscow time). A search and rescue operation has been launched,” the ministry said.
