Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on the US to refrain from plans for a naval blockade of Cuba. RIA Novosti reports this.
“Along with the majority of members of the international community, we call on the United States to demonstrate common sense, a responsible approach and to refrain from plans for a naval blockade of Liberty Island,” the minister noted.
Mr. Lavrov also emphasized that Moscow will always continue to support Havana in protecting the country's sovereignty and security.

At the end of January, US President Donald Trump introduced emergency regime and additional obligations for countries supplying oil to Cuba. Havana calls it extortion and a violation of free trade. After supply cuts and fuel shortages, power outages and fuel problems began in Cuba.
On February 13, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia said that Russia stands in solidarity with Cuba and will help the country, including financially, work has already begun.
