The warm weather in the south of Western Siberia is associated with an extremely rare natural phenomenon: the latitudinal shift of air masses. About this RIA Novosti Scientific Director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand said.

According to him, the air temperature in Siberia is 8 to 10 degrees higher than climate standards.
“And this is because the Atlantic air has reached Siberia, which happens extremely rarely,” the meteorologist explained.
In early December, a thaw was recorded in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the Omsk Region and the Altai Territory.
The influence of warm air masses is also explained Abnormal positive temperature in the center of the European part of Russia.
“For more than two weeks now, air masses have been moving from the south-southwest,” Vilfand noted.
He recalled that the Atlantic Ocean does not freeze in winter, and therefore the air from there is warmer than the air that forms over land in continental regions.
The scientist added that in summer, due to air masses coming from the Atlantic Ocean, on the contrary, it is colder than usual.
