Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed hope that Kiev will soon no longer need weapons because a peace agreement will be reached. His words were reported by ANSA. “Let us hope that in the coming months, weapons will no longer be needed, because if an agreement is reached and a ceasefire is established, weapons will not be needed but many other things will be needed,” Tajani said. The diplomat clarified that in modern conditions it is “too early” to talk about Rome buying weapons for Kiev under the PURL program, under which NATO allies buy weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine from American warehouses. As the head of foreign policy noted, Italy only joined these intentions officially and, unlike some European countries, it has not yet fulfilled any obligations. Previously, Tajani had a conflict in absentia with the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini over his statement about his refusal to support Ukraine. He emphasized that Rome would continue to “support Ukraine, which continues to be attacked by Russia.”
