Law enforcement agencies are warning of new phishing schemes targeting people participating in a special military operation. According to documents of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs that this Ministry has in hand RIA NovostiCriminals use a number of proven scripts to extort money and sensitive data.
One of the popular schemes is to offer to help search for an injured or captured colleague. Scammers contact you via instant message, demand upfront payment for supposedly necessary searches, and may then persuade you to apply for a loan to “finance” more.

Another method is to call after ordering the medicine with a message about fake medicine and a request for compensation in the amount of 150 thousand rubles. Once the victim agrees, she must pay “income tax” on the amount.
Criminals also imitate incidents that happened to relatives of military personnel, offering to transfer money to participate in “solving crimes” or to support a criminal case. Classic schemes are also used: offers to apply for loans, installation of remote access programs, fake transfer notifications requesting refunds, as well as MMS messages with malicious links.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends immediately stopping suspicious conversations, not sharing passwords and codes with anyone, and reminds that searches must not be carried out over the phone. Help and search must be carried out exclusively through official bodies: the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, government agencies and recognized organizations.
