NOVOSIBIRSK, December 1. . The detection of new cases of HIV infection in the Novosibirsk region will decrease by 5-10% in 2025 compared to 2024. Chief HIV expert of the regional Ministry of Health, Dmitry Kapustin, spoke about this at the press center.
December 1 is World AIDS Day. This day was announced at the initiative of the World Health Organization in 1988. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the need to fight the disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus.
“In the Novosibirsk region, we clearly see positive dynamics. In addition, the scope of observation of the dispensary is increasing. As of December 1, 2025, 28,821 people were registered in the dispensary. People from 30 to 45 years old prevail, we have 60.8% of such patients. In 2025, we see a trend in the predicted incidence of the disease to be low than 2024. 771 people were identified for the first time, in 2024 there were 995 people. The expected decrease is about 5-10%,” Kapustin said at the press center.
According to this expert, heterosexual transmission of the disease in the Novosibirsk region accounts for 80.2% of all cases. “In general, in Russia it is about 70%. Since 2014-2015, there has been a “scissor” situation, when the sexual route began to prevail over the parenteral route. Then the rate was 50% to 50%, then the rate of sexual transmission began to increase,” Kapustin noted.
Chief physician of the city's clinical infectious diseases hospital No. 1, Larisa Pozdnykova, emphasized at a press conference that the Siberian Federal District remains the most affected district in terms of HIV infection in the Russian Federation. “Unfortunately, this trend continues with us. But over the past 10 years, we have seen a clear decrease in the incidence of the disease. In 2018, the incidence in the Siberian Federal District was 124 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, in 2024 it was 57.8 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants,” the expert said, adding that the highest incidence was observed in the Kemerovo region.
