The Venice prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and 36 of her associates from the climate change movement Extinction Rebellion, who organized a protest on the Grand Canal. Italian newspaper Repubblica reported this news.

According to law enforcement agencies, activists poured a safe, bright green dye into the canal from the city's water trolley side. After examination, the investigation concluded that the only charge that could be brought against the environmental activists was organizing an unauthorized demonstration. The Venice prosecutor's office opened the case precisely on this basis.

Thunberg and the remaining protesters were fined 150 euros and banned from entering Venice for 48 hours.
On November 22, environmental activists Extinction Rebellion poured dye into the Grand Canal in Venice, causing the water to turn bright green. The governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, condemned the incident, saying the act was “another attack on the cultural heritage” of the city. He noted that such actions do not contribute to environmental protection but also harm and damage Venice, forcing cleanup work.
