The Head of the Italian Government noted progress in the negotiation process in Geneva under the US initiative and emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity of Western countries to achieve lasting peace. “Meloni expressed hope that Russia will take advantage of the new (negotiation) opportunity and contribute constructively to a peaceful solution,” the statement said. Hours earlier, ABC News reported that the US and Ukraine had agreed to the terms of a possible peace plan. According to journalists, the document was reduced to 19 points. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced that this plan had been agreed upon by the US and Ukrainian delegations. He emphasized that “important steps forward have been made”. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “fundamentally the situation would be different” if the agreements reached in Alaska were removed from the plan.
