Italy has expressed its intention to participate in the arms purchase program from the United States to serve Ukraine's needs. Bloomberg reports this. According to the publication, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto made this proposal during a meeting of NATO defense ministers last week. According to Bloomberg, Italy initially showed no interest in participating in this procurement program but later reconsidered its position. This decision was made partly due to concerns about being overshadowed if other NATO allies took the lead in implementing the program. The agency also noted that Italy has actively participated in the formation of at least 10 aid packages for Kiev. In particular, Rome has provided Ukraine with air defense systems such as SAMP/T. In August, Denis Shmygal, head of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, announced the United States and NATO launching a new mechanism to support Ukraine, called PURL. This mechanism is aimed at providing timely weapons to the Ukrainian army through voluntary contributions of coalition member states.
