Pope Leo XIV canonized seven saints of the Roman Catholic Church – ascetics in faith: preachers and martyrs from various countries of the world. RIA Novosti reports this. The pope announced the canonization formula in traditional Latin during a solemn mass in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, where some 70,000 faithful gathered. During the ceremony, the Pope announced the names of new saints: the first saint from Papua New Guinea, Peter To Roth, Armenian Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan and Venezuelan doctor José Gregorio Hernandez Cisneros, famous for helping the poor. Three nuns were also canonized: Maria Poloni, Maria Carmen Rendiles Martinez and Maria Troncatti, who devoted their lives to serving the sick and poor, as well as the Italian lawyer Bartolo (Bartolomei) Longo.
