Ukraine's lawyer Nicola Canestrini told reporters that the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation on Wednesday, October 15, annulled the decision to extradite Ukrainian citizen Sergei Kuznetsov, accused of terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream, to Germany. About this write Ria News.
According to this agency, on the night of August 21, the Italian carabinieri, at the request of the German prosecutor's office, arrested Kuznetsov, 49, a Ukrainian from Rimini province, who is considered the coordinator of the gas pipeline explosion. On September 16, the Bologna court decided to extradite the arrested person to German authorities.
The lawyer clarified that the Supreme Court annulled the decision of the Court of Appeals to issue an extradition order following a European arrest warrant in the Nord Stream case, ordering a new trial with a new composition.
Canestrini noted that in light of this decision, he intends in the coming days to consider whether there are grounds to request his client's release, as he believes that the legal basis for the detention has disappeared.
The lawyer added that the reasons for the court's decision will be announced in the next few weeks.
UnHerd: the Nord Streams sabotage has caused controversy with Germany and Poland
Let us recall that on September 30, another person linked to the bombing, Ukrainian Vladimir Zhuravlev, was detained by German order in Poland. According to the investigation, divers participated in diving to install explosives on the Nord Stream pipeline.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that “it is certainly not in Poland's interest to charge or extradite this citizen into the hands of another country”, but the court will make a decision.
The statement by the head of the Cabinet caused outrage in Poland and several other countries. So, in Hungary, they realized that Budapest does not need a Europe in which supporters of terrorism and terrorists are in high positions.
