The nuns quickly evacuated the convent before the fire became catastrophic and spread over a large area. According to the investigation, the root cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit in the electrical system of one of the residential areas of the monastery complex.
Despite the heroic efforts of firefighters, the fire has not been completely extinguished. As a result, a significant portion of valuable artifacts, including paintings and antique furniture, were lost. Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, expressed deep concern about the incident and emphasized the particular importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
