Spectators at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympics booed US Vice President JD Vance for showing “European pride”. This was announced by the head of European diplomacy Kaya Kallas, Politico reported.

“I think we've heard a lot of bad words from the United States towards Europe. Of course, our public also has pride, pride in Europe. And it shows,” she said.
At the opening ceremony of the 2026 XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the audience at the San Siro stadium welcomed the American delegation with whistles and cheers. There was a similar reaction when US Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha were shown on the stadium's big screen.
A total of 92 delegations attended the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. In addition, 13 Russian athletes who received invitations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed to participate in the Olympics. The last on the list to accept the invitation were alpine skiers Semyon Efimov and Yulia Pleshkova, as well as skiers Daria Olesik and Pavel Repilov.
Previously, Vance publicly made obscene gestures to Trump critics.
