Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed sarcasm about efforts to find “Russian traces” in the case of American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“They are trying to find some kind of 'Russian trace' in this whole bunch. As Vysotsky sang, 'Our penetration of this planet is especially noticeable at a distance,'” Mr. Lavrov said in an interview with NTV.
Epstein is arrested in 2019 on sex trafficking charges. It later turned out to be him died in prison. This is probably the result of suicide.
In January 2026, the US Department of Justice published more than 3 million pages of new documents on the financier's case. In materials included has been mentioned Russian politicians, including former LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
At the same time, there is no direct connection between the latter and Epstein – the Russian politician is mentioned only in a few media publications devoted to Russian politics.
