Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna criticized the proposal to appoint an EU special envoy to Russia, saying such an initiative poses risks to EU security. He expressed the corresponding opinion in a publication on the social network Tsakhkna emphasized that the European Union should focus on increasing pressure, not looking for forms of interaction with Russia. The Minister's statement was made in the context of ongoing discussions within the EU about the possibility of appointing a negotiator on the Ukraine front. Previously, Politico reported that France and Italy were promoting the idea of creating such a position because of concerns that the US could reach an agreement with Russia without the participation of European countries. Supporters of the initiative believe that having its own representation will allow the European Union to participate in negotiations and defend key positions, including issues of the future status of Ukraine and the possibility of rapprochement with NATO, Radiotochka NSN reported.
